The Nikon Z8 delivers the flagship Z9 performance — a 45.7MP stacked sensor, blackout-free shooting and 8K video — in a noticeably smaller body, and it has quickly become one of the most popular cameras for serious underwater shooters. The Nauticam NA-Z8 Underwater Housing is built to unlock every bit of that potential while submerged, putting full fingertip control of the Nikon Z8 within reach of the reinforced, ergonomic handles. Machined from solid aluminum and depth-rated to 100m, the NA-Z8 draws on Nauticam’s proven NA-Z9 design to give photographers and videographers a housing they can trust dive after dive.
Key Features of the Nauticam NA-Z8
Mission Control ergonomics. Nauticam positions the controls you use most: ISO, AF-ON, shutter speed and aperture dials, record button, playback and the Fn levers — as close to the handles as possible, so you can adjust settings by feel without ever taking your eye off the subject or your hands off the housing.
Patented port locking system. Ports mount with a simple lever, no twisting or threading, and lock securely in place, keeping ports from rotating even with extended focus and zoom rings attached. The patented bayonet mount makes changing ports and lenses quick and easy.
Tool-free locking latches. The housing’s latch system is among the easiest to operate in the industry, requiring very little hand strength to open and close the housing yet holding it securely closed against accidental opening.
Integrated vacuum & leak detection. Paired with an accessory vacuum valve, the built-in electronic monitoring system gives you a constant, color-coded LED read-out of the housing’s watertight status along with peace of mind during your dive.
Heat-dissipating camera tray. The NA-Z8 tray was designed with baffles that spread heat away from the camera body, helping the Z8 stay cool during extended periods of high-resolution video recording.
Fast, reliable flash triggering. A battery-powered LED flash trigger comes pre-installed for near-instant strobe firing, with an optional TTL trigger available for automatic exposure with supported strobes.
The NA-Z8 is built around Nauticam’s N120 Port System, giving you access to the full range of native Nikon Z-mount lenses. It also accommodates Nikon’s extensive F-mount lens lineup through the FTZ adapter, using the same port configurations proven on Nauticam’s F-mount DSLR housings such as the NA-D850 and NA-D6. Dedicated lens-release buttons for both mounts let you swap lenses quickly without removing the camera from the housing. For divers with an existing collection of F-mount glass, that flexibility protects your investment while you build out a Z-mount kit.
Hybrid Shooting & HDMI Monitoring
The Nikon Z8 is a true stills-and-video hybrid, and the NA-Z8 is built for both. Its M24, M16 and M14 accessory bulkheads let you add external monitors and recorders, with the M24 bulkhead supporting clean HDMI 1.4 and HDMI 2.0 output for full-resolution monitoring. Build a full monitoring rig with Reef Photo’s compatible components:
The NA-Z8 pairs with Nauticam’s Full Frame Enhanced Viewfinders for an edge-to-edge, unrestricted view of the camera’s EVF — a genuine advantage when composing critical wide-angle and macro shots underwater. Choose the configuration that fits your shooting style:
Because the NA-Z8 is designed around the N120 Port System, it supports both acrylic and optical-glass ports as well as Nauticam’s premium water-contact optics — the optical systems that set Nauticam apart when it comes to underwater image quality.
Wide angle: Paired with the Nikon Z 14-24mm, the WACP-2 delivers a stunning rectilinear 140° field of view with full zoom-through and corner-to-corner sharpness that surpasses a traditional rectilinear-lens-and-dome combination. The WACP-1, WACP-C and WWL-C offer lighter, more compact wide-angle options for travel and reef work while still delivering the absolute best in image quality underwater.
Macro: The SMC-3 and SMC-2 super-macro converters deliver 2.3x and 3.6x magnification respectively with the Nikkor Z MC 105mm f/2.8 macro — the benchmark for underwater super-macro. For creative wide-macro and bug-eye perspectives, the MWL-1 and the modular EMWL system open up 60° to 160° fields of view. The MFO-1 provides increased image quality across the frame while boosting autofocus performance and a slight increase in magnification. The MFO-3 widens the field of view of the 105 Z to that of a 60mm macro while improving image quality and shortening the minimum focus distance to right onto the front glass.
